Mumbai: Nehlia Developers has introduced a paid menstrual leave policy for eligible women employees, effective September 2026, making menstrual health part of its formal workplace well-being framework. The policy provides one paid day of menstrual leave each month, over and above existing sick, casual and annual leave entitlements, subject to the company’s internal HR policy and employment terms.
The move reflects the developer’s approach to employee welfare, with a focus on recognizing health-related needs that may not be adequately addressed by conventional workplace benefits. Through the policy, the company aims to enable women to manage their health without having to choose between their well-being and professional responsibilities.

Mr Ashok Nehlia, Founder & CEO, Nehlia Developers, said, “At Nehlia Developers, we believe that taking care of our people is not an HR formality; it is a leadership responsibility. The introduction of menstrual leave is a small but meaningful step towards building a workplace where women can work, grow, lead, and succeed without feeling the need to hide a natural part of their lives. We are not giving women a privilege; we are acknowledging a reality.”
Privacy and flexibility are central to the policy’s implementation. Employees will not be asked to submit unnecessary medical documentation when routinely availing of the benefit, and requests will be managed confidentially through the HR process. Depending on the requirements of their roles and operational considerations, employees may also be offered reasonable flexibility, including work-from-home arrangements or adjusted working schedules.
Mr.Om Prakash Nehlia, Managing Director, Nehlia Developers, said, “A workplace becomes truly supportive when its policies reflect the realities of the people who are part of it. Menstrual leave is about creating that space with understanding, dignity, and trust. As more women take on important roles across the real estate sector, it is equally important that organizations create an environment where they feel supported not just professionally, but as individuals.”
Nehlia Developers has a workforce of 100 employees, of whom approximately 70 are women. They work across several functions, including marketing, sales, human resources, operations, administration, communications and leadership. The company says it wants women’s perspectives to remain part of its organisational decision-making.
The policy comes amid the growing participation of women across a real estate sector traditionally dominated by men. Women are increasingly working in areas ranging from sales, marketing and architecture to finance, operations and leadership. Nehlia Developers believes that workplace policies addressing employee well-being can help women sustain their careers without feeling pressured to compromise on their health.
Beyond the leave provision, the company plans to promote greater awareness and sensitivity around menstrual health through workplace discussions and sensitisation initiatives. It also intends to explore further measures focused on women’s well-being, workplace flexibility, professional development, leadership opportunities and inclusion.

Nehlia Developers said its broader objective is to foster a workplace in which gender does not determine access to opportunities and professional growth.
