Pune: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. is moving towards taking possession of approximately 800 acres at Additional Butibori in Nagpur for the first phase of its planned 1,500-acre integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.
Announced earlier this year, the greenfield project will be developed across 1,500 acres in Vidarbha. The development will also be supported by a 150-acre supplier park in Sambhajinagar, which will supply components to the new Nagpur facility and Mahindra’s existing manufacturing units at Chakan and Nashik.

Once fully operational, the Nagpur facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of more than 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors. This would make it Mahindra’s largest integrated manufacturing facility in the country.
Alongside land acquisition and facility development, the company is preparing to build the workforce required to operate the new plant. Its plans include identifying, training and developing talent for automobile and tractor manufacturing across multiple powertrains and emerging technologies.
Mahindra intends to draw on the experience of associates working at its existing manufacturing facilities. Over the next two to three years, these employees will have the opportunity to participate in a detailed selection process for positions at the Nagpur plant.
The selection will assess candidates on their technical capabilities, demonstrated behaviours, alignment with Mahindra’s values and ability to work collaboratively.
The company also plans to establish a skilling centre in Nagpur to train workers in manufacturing-related disciplines, including mechanical operations, welding and painting. The centre is expected to support the development of the technical capabilities required for the new facility.
Mahindra said further information on workforce requirements, employment opportunities and the associated selection processes would be communicated as the project progresses.
