New Delhi: Metropolis by Reliance MET City in Haryana has secured LEED Platinum Pre-Certification under the LEED for Cities: Plan and Design rating system, becoming the first project in India to receive the recognition, according to Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI).

The LEED for Cities and Communities framework, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), evaluates large-scale developments at the planning stage across parameters including energy performance, water efficiency, mobility systems, natural ecosystems, materials and quality of life indicators.

The certification places Metropolis among a select group of globally planned urban developments assessed for sustainability benchmarks at the design stage.

Shrivallabh Goyal, CEO and Whole-Time Director, Reliance MET City, said the recognition reflects the company’s long-term approach to sustainable urban development.

“Achieving LEED Platinum pre-certification for Metropolis is a significant milestone for us. Sustainability, resilience and quality of life have been integral to the project’s planning from the outset,” Goyal said.

He added that embedding global environmental standards at the design stage allows for measurable and long-term performance outcomes.

“Our focus has been to create an urban ecosystem aligned with international benchmarks in energy efficiency, environmental responsibility and livability,” he said.

According to the company, pre-certification under the Plan and Design framework provides a roadmap for implementation and performance tracking as the development progresses.

Through the LEED framework, projects are assessed across key sustainability indicators including greenhouse gas emissions, transportation planning, land use strategy, ecological impact and resource efficiency.

Metropolis is located in Village Daryapur along MDR 123 in Haryana, near the KMP Expressway, AIIMS Badsa, the upcoming Haryana Orbital Corridor and the proposed BCCI international cricket stadium.
