New Delhi: Knauf India has launched “Knauf Drystar”, a specialised gypsum board system developed for humid and wet environments, as demand grows for building materials capable of resisting moisture, mould formation and long-term structural degradation.
According to the company, Knauf Drystar is a fibre-reinforced gypsum board designed for use in interior dry construction systems exposed to moisture, high humidity and intermittent water contact. The product combines a moisture-resistant glass-fleece surface with a specially engineered gypsum core aimed at reducing water absorption and protecting against mould growth.

The company stated that Knauf Drystar records water absorption levels below 3% and offers high resistance to mould. The board is classified under EN 15283-1 as GM-FH1IR, indicating enhanced fire performance, increased surface hardness, reduced water absorption and improved strength.
Knauf Drystar carries a fire classification of A2-s1,d0, categorising it as a non-combustible building material suitable for projects that require stringent fire safety standards.
Speaking on the launch, Mr. Sumit Bidani, CEO of Knauf India, said, “Modern construction demands materials not only delivering durability and performance but also addressing evolving concerns such as hygiene, fire safety, moisture management, sustainability and safety. With Knauf Drystar’s launch, we are introducing an advanced drywall solution that is engineered specifically for wet-area and high-humidity applications. Drystar amalgamates superior mould and moisture resistance with the flexibility, speed and efficiency of modern dry construction systems, enabling developers, architects and contractors to build with greater confidence.”
The company said the product is suitable for commercial and residential washrooms where ceilings and walls are regularly exposed to moisture and can serve as a base for waterproofing systems and ceramic tiles.
It can also be used in hospitality projects, including hotels, spas, bathrooms and wellness facilities, where long-term performance and mould resistance are required in high-humidity environments.
According to the company, healthcare facilities such as hospitals, diagnostic centres and clinics may also benefit from the product’s moisture-resistant and mould-resistant characteristics to support hygienic indoor environments in treatment zones and wash areas.
The board can additionally be installed in areas exposed to elevated humidity levels and occasional water splashes. It is also suitable for suspended ceilings in semi-exterior locations, including entrance canopies, covered walkways and balconies.
The company further stated that airports, schools, shopping centres and public infrastructure projects can use the product in changing rooms, washrooms and utility areas where moisture resistance and durability are important requirements.
